AgNext Takes Center Stage at the 8th Annual International Livestock Forum 

The International Livestock Forum is an annual event that allows producers, industry leaders, and academics to convene and discuss the current state of the livestock industry. This year was the 8th International Livestock Forum hosted in partnership by the Colorado State University Department of Animal Sciences and the National Western Stock Show at the CSU Spur Campus in Denver, Colorado.  

To showcase AgNext’s commitment to advancing the science of sustainable solutions for animal agriculture, the AgNext team was actively involved in this year’s International Livestock Forum. Dr. Sara Place led a thought-provoking panel discussion titled “Climate-Smart Agriculture – Where are we heading?” while the AgNext faculty took charge of an insightful afternoon breakout session titled “AgNext: Research-based Solutions in Livestock Sustainability.”

Moderated by AgNext’s Associate Professor of Feedlot Systems, Dr. Sara Place, a panel of experts engaged in a comprehensive discussion on climate-smart agriculture. Dr. Place, an expert with over a decade of experience studying greenhouse gas emissions in animal agriculture, guided the conversation through the challenges and opportunities associated with climate change and agriculture. The panel included the Director of AgNext Dr. Kim Stackhouse-Lawson, Paige Parker from the United States Meat Export Federation, Jill Browkaw from the National Pork Board, and Jordan Kraft-Lambert from CSU Spur. Together, the panel explored innovative strategies, technologies, and policies that their organizations are using aimed at creating a resilient and sustainable future for livestock.

AgNext’s Breakout Session: “AgNext: Research-Based Solutions in Livestock Sustainability” 

AgNext faculty including Dr. Pedro CarvalhoDr. Diego ManriquezDr. Nathan DeLay, and Dr. Sara Place took the stage in the afternoon. Attendees had the opportunity to delve into the latest advancements and findings of the AgNext faculty’s research. From beef on dairy to methane mitigation research AgNext’s comprehensive approach to finding sustainable solutions for animal agriculture was on full display. 

AgNext’s participation in the International Livestock Forum exemplifies our dedication to advancing the science of animal agriculture. As we navigate the complex challenges of a changing climate and evolving agricultural landscape, AgNext’s interdisciplinary research-based approach stands out as an example of innovation and progress in academia that can be shared with researchers, industry professionals, and producers alike.
