Lead Modeler
Dr. Fidel Maureira is currently the AgNext Lead Modeler, where he leads efforts to develop advanced models for sustainable animal agriculture systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Biological and Agricultural Engineering from Washington State University, where his research focused on the sustainable intensification of food production systems. Prior to joining AgNext, Dr. Maureira served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Michigan State University, where he contributed to the development of a cloud-based crop yield forecasting system designed for low-income countries.
Dr. Maureira’s expertise includes remote sensing, crop and hydrological modeling, and greenhouse gas emissions analysis in diverse agricultural environments. His work has been instrumental in projects aimed at enhancing agricultural resilience and sustainability, such as integrating multi-ensemble crop simulation models and evaluating the environmental impact of productive agricultural systems.
Beyond academic research, Dr. Maureira has extensive experience working with government agencies and stakeholders to advance sustainable agricultural practices, bridging the gap between scientific innovation and real-world applications. His work reflects a commitment to fostering resilience in food systems while addressing the challenges of climate change and resource management.
